Master techniques to overcome nervousness and present with confidence in a business environment. At the same time knowing the techniques on how to confidently express opinions and needs. The workshop now only provides various invaluable reference materials but also business case scenario exercises to allow students to practice during the workshop.

• Negotiating Skill 1
  Understand how to prepare for a negotiation process (including opening, bargaining and closing), then put it into action through role-play practices.
• Negotiating Skill 2
  Learn how to prepare for a negotiation, develop viable alternatives and negotiate “win- win” agreements. The workshop provides tactics to deal with conflict and make concessions to get something in return.  
• Social English
  Knowing the methods on how to socialise with English speakers without confusion, fear or stress through small talks and group interaction exercises. Providing the opportunity and platform to students to boost up their confidence to communicate better in their personal and professional life.
• Writing Skills 1
  How to to organise their business writing more effectively, avoid common grammar mistakes and write with a more appropriate style and tone. Using a systematic model to illustrate how to create business writing expressions and providing examples of business correspondence for analysis, followed by extensive business writing practices.

Elevator Pitch Workshop: Impress you in 90 seconds
Aims to provide skills in idea generation and validation, and the ability to pitch ideas with clarity and enthusiasm.

R Programming
R is a language and environment for statistical computing and graphics. R provides a wide variety of statistical and graphical techniques, and is highly extensible.

• R Programming for Machine Learning
  The aim of the course is to have our students understand the concepts of machine learning through R Programming. Students would learn the basic elements in R programming language then utilising the knowledge learnt and apply it in statistical analysis such as simulation, regression modelling, and linear discriminant analysis.

SPSS
SPSS Statistics is a software package used for interactive, or batched, statistical analysis.

• SPSS for Data Analysis Workshop
  Learn how to perform basic statistical analyses, data checking and create simple tables and charts through using SPSS. The workshop would go through 1) SPSS introduction 2) Importing and arranging data 3) Manipulating and administering files 4) Analysing data 5) Managing results.

JavaScript
JavaScript, is a programming language that conforms to the ECMAScript specification. JavaScript is high-level, often just-in-time compiled, and multi-paradigm.

  This workshop enables students to write, compile, and run a simple JavaScript program. The workshop is specifically customised to be take a step-by-step approach so that it's easier for our Masters Programmes students to understand JavaScript code.

Python is an interpreted, object-oriented, high-level programming language with dynamic semantics.

• Introduction to Python Workshop (Financial analysis focused)
  Learning the fundamentals of Python data structures such as lists and arrays, also powerful ways to store and manipulate financial data to identify trends.
• Python for Data Science and Analytics Workshop
  Focusing in the perspective of data science and analysis purposes, the workshop uses practical examples in explaining the fundamentals of Python data structures such as lists and arrays and learn powerful ways to store and manipulate financial data to identify trends.
• Python Workshop Intermediate Level
  For students who want to understand more in-depth knowledge after attending the introductory workshop, the intermediate level session focuses specifically on data processing and web scraping. SQL (Structured Query Language)

• Bloomberg Workshop Series
  Through the Bloomberg terminals, students can gain access to the information available to practitioners and acquire practical market knowledge and skills they are expected to master by the finance industry. It bridges the gap between theory and practice and helps students develop a holistic and coherent understanding of global financial markets.
  The workshops aim to let our students to learn how to use the basic navigation, FX & fixed income basic and equity analysis Basic on Bloomberg.

The Financial Times is one of the world’s leading news organisations, recognized internationally for its authority, integrity and accuracy.

• Financial Times Introductory Session
  Financial Times representative to give an in-depth session on the key content and tools available on FT.com. This is to maximise our Masters Programmes students' benefits in utilising the subscription available of The Financial Times (FT). The workshop went through the process of creating & accessing the Financial Times account via app, in addition to personalise their experience when using FT.  Most importantly, the representative advised how our students can utilise FT for their assignments as well as interview preparation so they can tool them up in being corporate ready.
  To maximise students' benefit in subscription of The Financial Times (FT), the FT representative was invited to give an in-depth session of FT key content and tools available on FT.com.

Adobe Photoshop
A raster graphics editor developed and published by Adobe Inc. Photoshop can edit and compose raster images in multiple layers and supports masks, alpha compositing and several colour models including RGB, CMYK, CIELAB, spot colour, and duotone.

VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) is a simple, but powerful programming language that you can use to extend Office applications.

• Excel VBA Intermediate Level Workshop
  For students who would like to proceed further into the intermediate level, which allows them to learn enhanced knowledge in VBA programming including 1) Range's properties and methods 2) Other useful object methods 3) Message and variables 4) Loops and conditions 5) Working with workbooks and worksheets.
• Workshop for Reporting and Charting
  Learning the most important Excel formulas and having intermediate VBA knowledge on reporting and charting.

Machine Learning for Data Processing Workshop
An introductory workshop for students to learn some machine learning techniques on artificial neural network (LSTM) as well as data processing using pandas and API.

Power BI
Power BI is a business analytics service by Microsoft. It aims to provide interactive visualisation and business intelligence capabilities with an interface simple enough for end users to create their own reports and dashboards.

  The workshop provides an overview of the application and learnt the features used in different stages from importing, analysing, visualising and publishing data and reports.

Data Driven Documents (D3)
Data Driven Documents (D3) is a powerful JavaScript library that allows the user to bind data to elements of a webpage to create dynamic charts, maps, graphs, and visualisation.

• Data Visualisation with D3.js Workshop
  Students would be able to use a handful of techniques, centred around the D3 Library. Most importantly, by seeing the model of D3 in creating charts, graphics, visualisations and maps.

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®)
Aiming to help students identify job occupations that will be a good fit for their personality type, the workshop provides an in-depth understanding of MBTI® types and the job families and occupations that would best suit for students’ personalities. This will be very useful to choose a specific career or to make a career transition apart from considering other important areas such as abilities, skills, interests, values and goals.

  Library is one of the most essential learning facilities in campus. A library workshop was organised for students to get prepared for the new study life in HKU. • BankFocus and Oriana
  BankFocus is a comprehensive banking database which facilitates researchers to analyse banks, for counterpart credit risk, portfolio analysis, regulatory reporting and anti-money laundering due diligence. The workshop introduces the methodology details of Bureau van Dijk, BankFocus and Oriana, as well as providing a live demonstration on university case studies.
• Refinitiv Eikon
  Refinitiv Eikon is a financial analysis and trading platform. The workshop provides a live demonstration letting our students be familiarise on the usage of the platform and function of Eikon Excel.
• Capital IQ Database
  After learning the knowledge of Capital IQ and Market Intelligence Financial Institutions and company monitoring and modelling tools. Students would be able to perform valuation and generate due diligence reports for comprehensive competitive analysis.
